At Total Family, our purpose is simple.

I wish a company like Total Family had existed when I needed it. But since it didn't, we built it.
Alex Kirby
Founder & CEO
I grew up in a working class family. Between my parents, there were six marriages, five divorces, and ten step and half siblings. For a long time, I believed that money and resources would solve the challenges families face.
As my career progressed, I worked closely with multi generational business owners, executives, and families with significant wealth. What surprised me was not how different their families were from mine, but how similar they felt.
Complex relationships. Miscommunication. Unspoken expectations.
The realization was simple and uncomfortable. Money was not going to solve this problem.
What was missing were the tools, structure, and systems to help families do the work that actually matters. That insight set me on a path of discovery. The most important moment on that path was finding the work of James E. Hughes and the Five Forms of Family Capital. Those ideas reshaped how I understood wealth, family, and legacy, and they continue to shape everything we build at Total Family.
